UNITY is a worldwide movement of prayer, publishing, and education that helps people of all faiths apply positive spiritual principles in their daily lives. We support all people in their individual quest to know God and find healing in their lives. Our philosophy offers a practical approach to Christianity and teaches that as children of God, we are heirs to all that we need.

UNITY is most unique for it has no creedal requirements, little concern for dogma or ritual, and allows one the freedom to grow spiritually at his or her own pace.

UNITY has been described as a “common-sense religion” and as “Practical Christianity,” for it sees religion as an open-ended search for Truth where people of all races, colors, religions, social backgrounds, and economic levels are welcomed with love and dignity. At UNITY, the spiritual community of all mankind is stressed.

UNITY accepts the Bible as its basic textbook of Truth and interprets much of it spiritually or metaphysically since literal “letter of the law” interpretation reveals only part of the Truth.

UNITY then goes on to explain the Bible and its lessons as they relate to you and your present day life and its experiences.

UNITY also accepts and respects statements of Truth from all sources, secular and religious for they believe that God is good and God is in all. “In Him we live and move and have our being.”

In UNITY, we define God as Spirit, Creator, Source, Sustainer, Divine Mind, Life, Light, Love, Energy, Principle, Divine Law, Omnipresence, Omnipotence, Omniscience, and Our Father. UNITY goes on to define God’s will for every man as joy, life, and plenty.

UNITY proclaims the divinity of Jesus, but assures you, that like Jesus, you are a child of God, therefore, divine in nature, with the potential to express God’s goodness in your life and affairs. Those involved in UNITY seek to relate religion to daily needs, affirming that as a child of God, you inherit His goodness, His spiritual qualities, and God’s perfect answer to every need.

UNITY acknowledges Jesus as Savior, Teacher, Way-Shower, and Elder Brother, but worships the Christ, God’s Spirit in man, rather than Jesus the man. UNITY believes the Spirit of Jesus Christ to be alive and active in the world, pouring out His abundant life to all who will receive; this is His “second coming.” Because of this belief, UNITY describes salvation as the expanding understanding of one’s innate divinity and perfectibility through living the life demonstrated by Jesus.

UNITY sees Jesus’ resurrection as illustrating man’s deathless, eternal unity with God-life, and His clear command for all men to accept the eternal quality of life.

Because God is defined as Omnipotence, Omniscience, Omnipresence, UNITY denies the existence of any power or presence opposed to God. There is no personal “devil” or place called “hell,” and heaven or the kingdom of heaven is described as a state of living in which there is harmonious mental and spiritual expansion, rather than a place where a chosen few souls may dwell in a static eternity. UNITY recognizes that there are evil appearances and suffering in the world, but ascribe these to man’s erroneous use of God’s laws of Life.

UNITY views the present moment as part of “eternal life,” therefore, you are at this moment as close to eternal life as you can ever be. UNITY stresses learning to live the present moment as fully and as completely aware of God’s presence as is possible, not waiting until some future time to express God’s good to your fellow man, but seeing the good in all things and in all people.

UNITY speaks of sin in its original meaning of “missing the mark.” Sin is not permanent or resistant to good. Man does not have to sin (make errors or mistakes) in order to grow, but errors can contribute to growth if he learns from them and releases himself from bondage to them. UNITY speaks of repentance as a change of heart, and mind, and of living.

Prayer and the power of prayer are an integral part of UNITY, and UNITY teaches you a way of prayer that works, using the power of every thought, feeling, word and action. UNITY sees prayer, not as a technique for changing God, but rather as a technique that expands and transforms your mind, thus changing you.

UNITY goes on to stress that you can commune with God directly without intercessor or intermediary. All of this, and more, is UNITY. For a a greater understanding of UNITY and its “common-sense-religion” approach to life, join us for our regularly scheduled worship service.
